Results of Extreme Water Damage

5/25/2018 (Permalink)

The severity of a water-damaged location is classified by the source of the water and also by the materials that are affected. Another factor is the size/amount of what was affected. When the source of wetness is clean water, the damage is often less severe than when flooding that is caused by a sewage spill or a groundwater flow. When ceilings and upper walls are wet, it’s far more serious than when only a portion of flooring is wet. Don’t worry, there are times proven methods and scientific formulas to properly mitigate and restore each classification and category of water damage. (Mitigation means to stop and contain the damage, and restore means to rebuild or bring back to prior condition.)

What happens when the damage is really intense, will you need to move out? That is a common question. When facility’s systems such as plumbing, heating, and lighting are compromised, moving out during restoration is often the practical solution. When unsafe and unhealthy conditions are present, occupants should vacate. If habitation seriously impedes the cleanup and restoration efforts (especial when young children or seniors are present, it makes sense to move out. Any time the appropriate situation requires move-out we will respectfully notify your insurance adjuster or your property manager as needed. However, the final decision about moving out will be made between you and your insurance adjuster or property manager/landlord. When a disaster strikes, it is a stressful experience. No one enjoys having their home or workplace damaged or their daily life and routines interrupted. It is normal to feel a sense of helplessness. Interacting with an insurance company and having contractors in and out of your home is not familiar territory. From the start to the completion of a restoration project questions arise. SERVPRO of Stockton will be pleased to provide answers and information. We are here to serve the residents and business professionals of Stockton.
