Fire & Water - Cleanup & Restoration

Stove top fire

When a fire happens in a kitchen we tend to think about the damage that is caused by the flames and the smoke. Fire can burn and char cabinets, and the smoke can travel through the house bringing soot and odor everywhere. Sometimes, its the water that was used to extinguish the flames that causes the most damage. Often when a fire happens the electricity is turned off by the fire fighters. A fire damaged home can sit for one or two days before restoration service begins. The reason for the delay is because the Fire Department often has to investigate the source of the fire. Building inspectors and electrical suppliers may need to inspect the location too before services can be turned back on. In the meantime the fire fighting water will migrate into walls, floors, cabinets, etc.  This becomes a problem in multi-unit dwellings where neighboring units can become wetted as water migrates.

Whenever possible SERVPRO of Stockton will setup power generators to support water extraction and drying equipment. When we work at a fire damaged location, we also think about the "water" too. We stabilize the environment and reduce secondary damage.
