Quick Tips for Dealing with Water Damage in Your Home

Water damage can be a real nightmare for homeowners. Whether it's from a burst pipe or a flooded basement, dealing with water damage can be a daunting task. Here are a few tips to help you deal with water damage.

Firstly, it's important to stop the water source and turn off the electricity to prevent any electrical hazards. If the water damage is minor, you may be able to handle the cleanup yourself. However, if the damage is extensive, it's best to call in a professional like SERVPRO of Stockton.

Once the water source is stopped and the electricity is turned off, remove any standing water using a wet/dry vacuum or mop. You should also remove any furniture or belongings that have been affected by the water.

After removing the water, it's important to dry out the affected area as quickly as possible. Open windows and doors to allow for ventilation, and use fans and dehumidifiers to help speed up the drying process.

If you're dealing with water damage to your carpets, it's best to call in a professional carpet cleaner. They will be able to properly clean and disinfect your carpets to prevent mold and bacteria growth.

In conclusion, dealing with water damage can be a stressful and time-consuming task, but with the right approach, you can minimize the damage and get your home back to normal as quickly as possible. Remember to always prioritize safety and call SERVPRO of Stockton at (209) 477-3090 if necessary.

How To Detect Mold Issues

Mold Build Up on Ceiling When mold starts to invade your home, dealing with mold removal quickly and safely should be a priority.

How To Detect Mold Issues

Mold thrives in moist, dark, and nutrient-rich environments. They may enter your house by any of your vents, doors, HVAC ducts, or windows. Molds may develop and spread in as little as 48 hours, which is much worse. Molds aren't simply dangerous to your house and possessions; they may also put your health at risk. But how can homeowners detect molds?

Musty Smell

In particular, if the musty odor originates from your HVAC system, this can signify the presence of mold. Mold thrives in moist and humid conditions, making your HVAC system an ideal breeding ground for spores.

Presence of colored blotches on Ceilings or walls.

There is a greater likelihood that water will drop from a roof hole or a fracture in your wall. Mold might begin forming on the leak or rupture if it isn't addressed. So this can lead to gray, white, or black blotches on ceilings or walls.

There are visible mold spores.

The most evident indicators of mold development can be seen with the naked eye, such as mold spores in your house's humid regions. Molds may be challenging to get rid of, even with soap and a sponge, since molds are such tenacious creatures.

Cold or flu symptoms

Mold may cause allergies and other respiratory issues such as persistent cold or flu. So, if you have these symptoms, watch out for mold presence.

If your home or business in Stockton, CA has been flooded, you should immediately contact a water damage restoration company. SERVPRO of Stockton Water damage restoration company has the expertise to deal with floods and water damage quickly, reducing mold development and its consequences. Call us at (209) 477-3090.

Locations in your home may be at risk for water damage.

There is no joking around when it comes to Stockton property damage. Even though homeowners may not worry about this, many occur when you least expect them. Water damage is one of the issues that keep popping up. These incidents may make you feel that there is no way out, but knowing the locations at home that may be at risk of water damage helps in the long run! Just a few instances include the following:

The Bathroom

Humidity crises are also prevalent in bathrooms. Mold and other germs may thrive in stagnant water if faucets aren't checked regularly. When bathrooms aren't adequately ventilated after a bath or shower, mold may form on the walls.

The Kitchen

Several elements in the kitchen make it a high-risk location for water damage. If your kitchen cabinetry and flooring may warp if leaking pipes are left ignored, resulting in extensive damage and pricey cleaning.

The Roof

The roof is among the first lines of protection against water damage caused by weather. On the other hand, roofs are weakened by each blow and must be maintained to keep the inside dry. So, it is highly suggested that you get regular checks.

The Basement

Flooding is a possibility in basements since they are below ground level. Check the foundation and seals on walls and ceilings to verify that your basement isn't vulnerable to water damage.

Disasters may still happen in your Stockton home even if you know where these rooms are located. If this happens, you'll want to call in the experts at SERVPRO of Stockton (209) 477-3090 to handle the water damage cleaning effectively.

5/25/2022 (Permalink)

Water Flooding When you are dealing with water damage, immediate action is crucial.

ACTIONS TO TAKE IN THE EVENT OF WATER DAMAGE

The use of water is beneficial to our health, but it is not helpful to your home. If your home is flooded with water, you should take the following steps to protect your home from suffering additional damage:

  • Disconnect the House from the Electric System.
  • Find out where the water is coming from that is leaking.
  • Take Away the Soggy Things
  • Clearwater from the area that was damaged
  • Open Windows
  • Dial the number of the water damage restoration company.
  • Take  Pictures of the Area That Was Affected

Take Actions Immediately

After discovering that the water is flooding, you must act immediately. Maintain your composure and use extreme caution if you work with electronics or circuits during floods. The quicker you take action; the less harm water will do to your house if it gets inside. In addition, leaks and cracks in the foundation should NOT be ignored since they will not only cause damage to your foundation but also provide an ideal environment for mold development.

Also, because mold begins to develop between 24 and 48 hours after it is exposed to moisture, it is in your best interest to have a trained water damage restoration expert investigate any areas that could be at risk for mold growth. Give SERVPRO of Stockton team a call today at (209) 477-3090.

How To Detect Water Damage

How To Detect Water Damage

Houses are one of the most significant investments you will make in your lifetime, and buying one is a substantial financial commitment. However, when protecting your investment, you should be on the lookout for any domestic concerns and fix them before the situation worsens. One of them is water damage. And the best way of dealing with water damage is to detect it at first. So, how do you detect water damage?

Always look at the Floors.

It doesn't matter what type of flooring you have; water damage will show up. And this is why it is essential to look out on the tile and wood floors for cracks, buckling, or warping.

Look for stains.

These include stains on the floor surrounding a bathroom's bathtub or toilet and on ceilings and walls stained by water. Spotting unusual stains in the wall might suggest that a pipe or drain is leaking behind it. It's also possible that bloated or soft-to-touch patches in the drywall indicate issues.

Observe from the Outside.

Take a look around the outside of your home. Water pools in the yard, gutters that aren't moving water far enough away from home, or leaking rain gutters are all things to watch for while inspecting a property's drainage systems. Your home's foundation might be at risk from any of these conditions.

Keep an eye out for rust and mold.

Check for corrosion on the tank or moist patches on the floor when inspecting the water heater. Smelly tanks might be an indication of an ongoing leak. It's also possible that water seepage might be causing corrosion near pipe connections. Your home's nooks and crannies may be harboring tiny mold spores, which may be seen by looking for visible mold development.

What You Need to Know About Water Damage

5/4/2022 (Permalink)

Noticeable water stains on the ceiling Our customer-focused professionals will assess the residential water damage to your property. Then help you understand the severity of the damage.

What You Need to Know About Water Damage

Having to deal with water damage is the worst nightmare for every homeowner. And in the event of a leaky pipe or a flooded basement, the whole house activities have to be on pause until your house is dry and secured. Here are three things you need to know about water damage to protect your house and respond correctly in the event of an emergency:

The type of water matters.

The three types of water causing damage at home are rainwater, fresh water, and sewage water. And they all need a different approach to combat them. Bacteria in sewage may make you very unwell and even kill you. Unfortunately, it is frequently simple to discern the difference since it will smell just as you expect. However, experts in water damage restoration will have the necessary tools and equipment to tackle any water-related issues that may arise securely.

Watch out for the presence of mold.

Despite the water being removed from your home, there is still moisture lurking in the shadows that you may not be aware of. And this can lead to mold growth in places such as crawl spaces and under floorboards. Toxic mold may harm a house's structure and have significant effects. A mold prevention expert should inspect your property to ensure that this dangerous substance isn't encroaching on your property.

Check out for attics.

A leaking roof or clogged gutters are the most typical causes of water damage, so your attic is particularly vulnerable. Check your attic often for signs of water damage to ensure that a tiny leak does not escalate into a more significant issue.

Your Trusted Restoration and Clean Up Services.

Immediately call SERVPRO of Stockton at (209) 477-3090 if you believe that your house has been flooded or has water damage or mold. And to prevent future losses, urgent action is needed for all sorts of water damage. We will assist you in ensuring your safety and protecting your financial interests.

What Is Water Damage Remediation?

4/19/2022 (Permalink)

Professional Is Fixing a Busted Water Pipe SERVPRO’s professionals specialize in repairing and restoring following residential water damage.

What Is Water Damage Remediation?

By definition, water remediation is the process of remedying or reversing damages caused by water. In other terms, it involves cleaning, sanitizing, restoring, and drying damages that are the direct result of unwanted water in a business or home.

For any case of water damage, it's critical to act in an efficient and quick manner to clean the water and prevent additional damage from accumulating. If the damage is not handled in a rapid fashion, the affected areas will breed mold. For this to grow in a home, there must be an organic material such as insulation, drywall, wood, and moisture. Upon providing these two elements for the spores, mold starts growing in as little as 24 hours.

The first step in the process of remediation includes inspection of the water loss. During this process, a professional team will identify the category and class of the damages, which in turn helps determine the right course of action. Class 1 water damage means that water has damaged some of a room that has yet to absorb significant concentrations, often resulting in low repair costs. Class 2 water damage means that an entire room has been affected, and walls have begun soaking up the water. Class 3 water damage means that flooding has expanded to the ceiling, making it fully saturated. Class 4 water damage indicates issues affecting concrete, hardwood flooring, and stone, with special drying methods having to be implemented.

Excess and outstanding water will be extracted by a team of professionals. Once this is finished, the structure will be dried, and all traces of moisture will be removed. Next, the area will be cleaned and sanitized to ensure no mold spores are present. Finally, the structure will be restored to working conditions.

When you have water damage to your home, call SERVPRO of Stockton at (209) 477-3090 for quick response to prevent further damage and begin the water repair and restoration process.

Water Damage and Home Safety

Flooded room in a home When you have water damage to your home, SERVPRO® will respond quickly to prevent further damage and begin the water repair and restoration process.

Water Damage and Home Safety

When you suffer from water damage in a home, it's important to note the steps that could have led to its prevention. Plumbing, storm, or flood issues are extremely costly and typically require immediate action to remediate.

Leaking Supply Line

Washing machines tend to be fed by supply lines that face constant pressure. In the event that your water lines are composed of braided stainless steel, you often do not need to be concerned. The problem lies in whether or not the washing machine contains supply lines composed of PVC or rubber. These can easily rupture and wear out, which results in an entire laundry room flooding in the span of a handful of minutes if you fail to shut off the source of water in time. In short, use the right material for all lines.

Air Conditioning Condensation

AC units are designed to produce condensation in which moisture drips from the evaporator coil into a pan and is ejected from a property via a drain line. This system works until damage is taken by the pan or the drain line becomes clogged with dirt or dust. When water cannot escape, it will leak out from your AC straight into the house. All that unwanted water can damage the walls and floor, weakening the insulation.

Blocked Drains

Any drain, regardless of whether it is a kitchen sink, bathtub, or bathroom floor, can clog for a variety of reasons. Grease buildup, dirt, hair, toiletries, and other foreign objects have the potential to obstruct the pipe and prevent proper drainage. When not taken care of on a routine basis, they can easily back up, resulting in water damage and flooding.

SERVPRO Helps with Hidden Leak Water Removal from Stockton Homes

In many cases, when a water spill occurs, it is easy to address it by stopping the source and extracting the water pooling on the floor or other surfaces. However, some water damage incidents can be challenging if the leaking water is contained out of sight. We offer professional water removal that can help when you have hidden leaks.

Signs of a Hidden Water Leak

In many cases, water removal procedures from Stockton homes start too late if a hidden leak is the cause of the problem. However, it is possible to avoid such outcomes by checking for early signs of hidden leaks and seeking assistance from a professional. Some of the early signs include:

  • Unexplainably high water bills
  • Wall and floor damage
  • High humidity levels
  • Foul odor from mold or rotting materials
  • Non-Invasive Water Leak Confirmation

Resolving hidden leaks requires demolition to open up enclosed spaces such as walls, cabinets, or even floors. Since the location of the leak is not known beforehand, it is not a good idea to start such demolition randomly or by relying on guesswork. Our SERVPRO technicians use non-invasive methods to locate the problem areas first. We have thermal cameras, which utilize temperature differences to identify wet areas. Therefore, we can identify the leak source and the area where the water collects without doing any demolition. We also have other equipment, including borescopes, that help with the inspection.

Water Removal and Restoration

After identifying the problem area, there is a need to fix the leak, remove any standing water damage and dry materials. Our SERVPRO technicians perform controlled demolition steps to remove drywall, insulation, and other materials. We also inspect the plumbing lines to establish the extent of the problem. We fix minor issues, but major problems such as the replacement of pipes require a professional plumber. Once the source issue is addressed, we replace unsalvageable materials, cleanup, and perform other restoration steps necessary after the damage, making it, "Like it never even happened."

A hidden leak can cause unending problems. Call SERVPRO of Stockton at (209) 477-3090 to help. We are available 24/7.

Tips to Save Water Damaged Photos in Ortega

Ortega Water Damaged Photographs May Be Preserved By SERVPRO

When water damage strikes and homes are forced to submit to its destructive power, it is rarely material possessions that people fear losing the most. Instead, they worry about the water damage done to sentimental items, particularly family mementos and photographs.

While it is not always possible to save water damaged photos, scrapbooks, albums, and other personal records, in many cases, steps can be taken to restore them partially, if not entirely. If your possessions have been damaged by water in your Ortega home, follow this step-by-step process to try and recover treasured memories.

Water Damage Restoration for Photos

Step One: The first step is to remove the photographs from standing water as carefully as possible and place them high. If they are held in albums, they need to be separated and laid out somewhere dry. Take care when handling the shiny surface of the photo, as too much pressure can rub away the emulsion.

Step Two: Take a sturdy container filled with cold, clean water and quickly dip each photograph. Replenish the water if it gets dirty or murky.

Step Three: Now, lay each photo out flat again on a dry surface. It can be beneficial to set an absorbent material beneath them (like paper towels) too. These towels can soak up the surface water. However, do not use printed paper towels or newspapers because the ink can transfer into the pictures.

Step Four: Those who are still dealing with a chaotic situation cannot find a safe place to dry the photos; the best thing to do is seal them in a plastic sandwich bag and put them in a freezer. This ensures that they do not suffer further damage before you have a chance to dry them in a controlled manner. Use this as a last resort. Consider allowing SERVPRO to remove your photos and personal memorabilia to our facilities where we have state-of-the-art equipment.

Extra Hints and Tips: If possible, retrieve photos exposed to water damage as quickly as you can (ideally, within two days--but within hours can improve the chance of success.) After this point, they can begin to develop mold and be much harder to save.

To give yourself as much chance of saving prized mementos as possible, rescue photographs that do not have negatives first. You want to be focusing on the most 'at risk' items and objects. Do remember that photographs in frames need to be removed for saving while still wet. If you allow them to start drying, the photo can stick to the frame and be impossible to preserve. To separate a wet photo from its frame, rinse both with clean, cold water until the picture surface starts to become unstuck.

Hopefully, you have digitized your photos and video clips. Regardless, hard copies are treasures to be saved whenever possible. SERVPRO suggests that you secure our services for photographs and important documents to transport them back to our headquarters from your water damaged home. There we have many options to optimize the success rate of restoring, or, at least, preserving them, as best as is possible.

  • Dehumidification
  • Air Drying
  • Vacuum Freeze Drying
  • Vacuum Thermal Drying
  • Freezer Drying

Urgent response to drying can help save these mementos. Don't wait. As SERVPRO of Stockton restores a water damaged home, we can also be working on the photos. Just call (209) 477-3090.

With an in-house General Contractor License #: 937457, as well as trained technicians, we can offer a wide range of emergency services, including:

  • Extraction
  • Debris Cleanup
  • Controlled Demolition
  • Repairs
  • Temporary Construction Solutions
  • Content Management and Inventory

What is Job Scoping?

Before much of the mitigation begins on your water-damaged property, we must evaluate your home. This assessment determines the damages, the compromised areas of the house, and collects data for an efficient restoration plan. Some specific areas of evaluation include:

  • Extraction - Standing water is one of the worst conditions that our technicians have to address when we first reach the site. Job scoping can identify where this effort is necessary and what tool suits the situation best.
  • Content Cleaning - Your personal belongings can be equally destroyed by water damages without our SERVPRO team's direct intervention. Scoping can showcase these conditions. We have on-site cleaning approaches as well as off-site strategies for more substantial damage.
  • Damaged Structural ElementsIdentifying what materials have become overly compromised by water exposure can encourage a faster execution of controlled demolition to prevent greater structural losses.
  • Pre-Existing Conditions - While looking for present damage is a focal point of job scoping, it is equally essential to determine pre-existing conditions. Focusing the work to get done on the specific harms of the water disaster saves time and money for the customer.

How Hazardous is Standing Water?

Standing water is one of the chief concerns with considerable water damage incidents within a residence. The pooling of any kind leaves multiple surfaces and contents exposed. Depending on principles like porosity and the volume of water, saturation can begin nearly immediately. The sooner structural elements host moisture, the ability to successfully dry them becomes a more significant challenge for experienced restoration technicians.

  • Surface - Water sitting on the surface is the easiest to maintain when disasters occur. Before this pooling has the opportunity to get absorbed into the exposed materials nearby, our SERVPRO professionals can deploy extraction and water removal tools to limit saturation concerns.
  • Free - Once the water has penetrated the finished surfaces of flooring materials or the paper backing of drywall, this moisture sits in the affected building component. Free water can get removed using advanced drying tools like drying mats or centrifugal air movers.
  • Bound - In the final stage of absorption, trapped water chemically bonds with the molecules making up flooring or wall system materials. Once this occurs, there is no reversing the process. The only suitable solution at this point is the controlled demolition and replacement of these impacted materials.

How Can The Insurance Company Stay Involved?

While there are situations where you might choose to absorb the costs of professional restoration rather than filing a damage claim with your insurance provider, we can help you to determine the best option. The more information that you have regarding the damages present and the layers of complexity in cleaning and drying the effects, the more you can determine whether your insurance company should get involved or not. If you file a claim, we can keep the adjuster assigned to your case informed through every phase to keep the project on the appropriate timeline and within budget caps.

A full damage assessment and evaluation of the property can provide the necessary information and data to form a restoration plan. Despite how widespread water damages can become, our SERVPRO of Stockton team can reduce overall losses with immediate mitigation steps. From extraction and potential controlled demolition to thorough drying, we can guide your property through nearly every phase of the restoration process. Give our professionals a call anytime at (209) 477-3090.

Until our Green Fleet arrives at your door, it is vital that you try to shut off the source's water supply. What this does is help keep water from flooding the impacted space. If you are unable to locate the exact point of entry for the water, you can look into shutting off water to your home.

Additional measures that you can take would include:

  • Opening windows to the affected area
  • Ventilating the space as much as possible to keep humidity levels low
  • If possible, seal off the incident zone from other spaces in your house – this can include shutting any doors and laying down a blanket or towel at the bottom of the doorway

How is the Damage Addressed?

Calling in the help of IICRC-certified technicians ensures that all water is promptly removed so that complete drying and dehumidification can begin. We work to restore rather than replace whenever possible, which will include any impacted structural materials and your belongings and furniture. We have water restoration technicians (WRT) that carefully assess each space, ensuring that no moisture is left unattended. If necessary, we perform what is known as controlled demolition so that areas are addressed and finished off to bring the space back to preloss condition.

Controlled Demolition to the Rescue

My Plumbing Above The Ceiling In My Stockton Home Leaked – How Do I Know How Bad the Damage Is?

8/13/2020 (Permalink)

water damage on flooring Working with plumbing between floor levels can be challenging.

SERVPRO Can Provide a Detailed Assessment of Water Damage Caused by Leaks in Your Stockton Home

The average Stockton residence loses approximately 14% of the water that comes into the home through leaks. It can add up to hundreds of dollars in water bills.  Leaks and drips can also cause hidden damage that can slowly destroy ceilings, walls, and structural components. Early mitigation is a must to prevent secondary damage from occurring.

The Plumbing is Between Floors – How is That Handled?

One of the first things our Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) certified technicians do on arrival is to conduct a scope of the situation. This inspection allows them to determine what has happened and what equipment and methods are necessary. When considering water restoration companies in Stockton, SERVPRO is an excellent choice when mitigating water damage.

Determining the Damage

Whenever you have plumbing between the ceiling and upper-level, water leaks can cause extensive damage. Our teams are fast to respond and provide emergency water mitigation to prevent further loss and protect non-affected areas. There are several components to the scope that can help determine the damage. This includes:
    •    Material Affected – We locate the affected material and test for moisture content with surface moisture sensors. Probing meters can determine the area of the leak. The smaller the area of water content, the less controlled demolition is needed to repair the problem.
    •    Water Migration - By examining the moisture content thoroughly, water migration is tracked. This tells us what structural components are involved, even if there is no immediate sign of water damage.
    •    Replacement Needed – The crew looks for irreparable damage. These are portions of the wall or ceiling that need replacing. Ceiling tiles are a good example. It’s typically more cost-effective to replace them.

Working with plumbing between floor levels can be challenging. SERVPRO techs have the advanced technology and experience to restore your home, “Like it never even happened.” Contact SERVPRO of Stockton at (209) 477-3090 for one of the most professional water restoration companies around.

How Is Water Restoration of My Stockton Home Different from Water Mitigation or Water Remediation?

The Full-Spectrum of Services Offered by SERVPRO to Local Homeowners Starts at Assessment and Ends with Your Stockton Water Damage Restored “Like it never even happened.”

A water loss in your Stockton home disrupts everything. Floors are slick, walls sometimes ”sweat,” ceilings can bulge, and an unpleasant and worrisome smell takes hold over a day or two if a response is lacking. The cause can be a burst pipe, a malfunctioning appliance, a poorly caulked tub, or a neglected gutter and downspout system, among dozens of other catastrophes a home can endure. An immediate response is critical because water begins damaging structural components and contents within minutes to hours, and the harm is progressive and cumulative.

Are There Best Practices Standards for Water Restoration?

When your Stockton home needs water restoration, experts suggest hiring a firm certified by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC). The IICRC develops international standards for the mitigation, remediation, and restoration of a broad range of household disasters. Mitigation is defined as the halting of water damage. Remediation involves cleanup and attempts to bring structures and contents back to preloss condition. Restoration can include the build-back of severely damaged structures. Each of the underlying standards is based on research, proven by successful outcomes achieved by legions of trained and certified Water Damage Restoration Technicians (WRT). Our crews are among the most highly qualified water damage restorers available.

What Difference Do Our Trained Technicians Make?

One of the most frustrating aspects of water damage is the difficulty of determining where all the moisture migrated. Because of our training and experience, we know that water often appears to disappear while it has crept through cracks and crevices, and wicked into highly permeable or porous materials. The SERVPRO team realizes that unless the water is traced and tracked, damage continues to accelerate, although perhaps unseen. Eventually, some or all of the following occur if we do not locate and remove the moisture:

  • Wood framing swells, distorts, and weakens as the structure breaks down.
  • Metal supports and fasteners tarnish and fail in their original purpose.
  • Insulation packs down and loses its ability to maintain consistency in temperature.
  • Hardwood and subfloors absorb water and warp -- cupping, crowning, and even buckling (coming loose).
  • Drywall crumbles and lath and plaster breaks down.
  • Mold spores in the atmosphere or on surfaces absorb water. They then use organic surfaces (wood, drywall) as a food source and incubator for multiplication as the organisms form destructive colonies.

How Do WRT-Certified Experts Find the Moisture?

The project manager first conducts a visual inspection, looking for evidence of water incursion that can be seen with the naked eye. Bulging ceilings or peeling paint on walls signal pooled-up water and potential safety hazards if the structures collapse. “Rolling” planks or strips of hardwood flooring indicate a wet subfloor, as do displaced ceramic or other tiles. Cabinets in the kitchen or bathroom might have doors that stick or shelves that pull away because of absorbed water and the subsequent swelling. We cannot rely solely on these signs, so we also employ tools to find and quantify the hidden and trapped water:

  • Moisture detectors
  • Moisture meters
  • Infrared imaging

What Helps Release Hidden Water and Dry Out Wet Building Cavities?

If the water, standing or absorbed, is challenging to reach with conventional pumps and extractors, we consider controlled demolition techniques to access the fluids. Strategies include drilled holes, removal of beadboard and paneling, or flood cuts, where wall sections are sawed parallel to the floor several inches above the waterline. We suction liquid water with extractors, using wand extensions or hoses inserted into holes to reach into recesses. When we move on to the drying phase, we direct warm dry, pushing air into the cavities to enhance evaporation so that our dehumidifiers can capture the water vapor for disposal.

Water Damage Stockton – and Carpet Cleaning

Water leaks overflows from sinks, malfunctioning dishwashers, or laundry machines can occur almost anytime. Often water spreads to adjacent rooms where there is either wall to wall carpeting or throw rugs that can be damaged by the water. Depending on the carpet type, age, condition, or colors, cleaning the carpet may require unique processes while removing the water and moisture.

SERVPRO has been providing water damage cleanup services in the Stockton area for over ten years. We are in the top 100 of our franchises US-wide. In addition to holding AMRT - Applied Microbial Remediation Technician, ASD - Applied Structural Drying Technician, and CCT - Carpet Cleaning Technician, we also hold Californian HAZMAT licenses for biohazard and ultrasonic cleaning equipment.

Drying Carpets after a Water Leak

Carpets that have become soaked with water after a water leak must be dried to avoid issues later with mold or damage to the underlying floor. Throw carpets, for example, can damage hardwood floors if the carpet is not removed and dried. Colors may leach onto the floor or objects sitting on these carpets. SERVPRO can assess the carpet condition and make suggestions regarding the best approach to deal with the situation.

For example, the level of soiling, is the carpet stain-resistant, type of pile, type of fiber, and the overall condition of the carpet is considered before we proceed. We do not use rotary machines on Berber carpets, preferring hot water extraction, multiple vacuum passes, and air movers to dry the carpet. Heavily soiled carpets may require additional treatments depending on the type of soiling.

Older carpets damaged by water may delaminate. The backing separates from the carpet fibers. These carpets may also be torn or coming apart at a seam. All these issues are discussed with the customer before we begin removing water and moisture after a water leak. Our goal is to provide the best service possible and return your home to its original condition, "Like it never even happened."

We also hold Contractor Licenses: General: 937457.

Preventing Water Damage after an Appliance Malfunction often Requires More than Drying Out a Property in Stockton

When SERVPRO receives a call from a homeowner in Stockton about a dishwasher that overflowed into the kitchen and left soapy water everywhere, we arrive as quickly as possible. We need to stop the flow of water and start mitigation work. Because we work in specialized teams, this process flows smoothly, making our work even more efficient.

Residents in Stockton might notice water damage in their homes and to their belongings becomes steadily worse over time. This damage happens because water seeps into everything, to one degree or another. The nature of water to seep deeper into porous materials ignores gravity. Water moves from saturated areas into dry sections, even if that water must migrate upward.

It takes less than a day for drywall to begin swelling after a major leak. When we start mitigating the area involved, we can often save most, if not all, of the drywall sections in the area. Many times, pulling baseboards away lets us force air into wall cavities so drying can happen on both surfaces of the drywall. This air significantly hinders the spread of water damage and can often minimize the tear-out work required. When we can do less deconstruction work, the amount of reconstruction work decreases.

When if comes to flooring, we have slightly longer to mitigate before water damage becomes too extensive. Once a certain point passes, eliminating the current flooring from your kitchen becomes a necessity. Homeowners never need to locate a separate contractor, or wait for an available time because SERVPRO does everything from start to finish. Our building and reconstruction department (General Contractor License # 937457) helps with restoring flooring made of tile or linoleum. Water, especially warm water from an appliance that uses heat as part of its normal operations, rapidly disintegrates adhesives.

Tile floors with older grout can end up with sections where tiles become loosened. Repairing these before chips or other breakage occurs can save you from the expense of replacing the entire floor later. Linoleum can work its way loose at seams, especially after hot water seeps underneath and dissolves the glue. In some situations, replacing the floor becomes more cost-effective. Our experts discuss all of the options with the homeowner. Our restoration experts begin working with us from the start to save this valuable component of your house.

SERVPRO of Stockton restores homes “Like it never even happened” after incidents involving malfunctioning appliances, preventing water damage from escalating. Call us at (209) 477-3090 to protect your property.

Having a Water Damage Emergency in Stockton?

Having a pipe burst resulting in water damage is a fairly common occurrence. Often a pipe can burst in the bathroom or kitchen where your family frequently uses water. Many people do not realize that plumbing failures happen even when not living in a colder climate. Rust, hard water, and excess water pressure can all result in a mishap.

If you find your home with water damage in Stockton, the specialists at SERVPRO are ready to help you with everything you need to restore your home. If a pipe breaks in the bathroom or kitchen wall, it's not always as simple as cleaning up the area and replacing the drywall if necessary. There are several more steps to restoration to ensure there are no issues such as foul odors or mold infestations.

The SERVPRO team conducts a complete damage assessment, including using state of the art moisture detection devices to locate all areas of water migration within the residence. The initial scoping of the perceived water damaged area by a project manager or crew chief is an essential step in the mitigation and agreement to treat process. In cases where the water spill in the home comes from a toilet back up, the technicians may test the water to determine the nature of the contaminants. Black or gray water indicates a contaminant, while clear water does not. Spillage from a cracked or overflowing holding tank is typically clean water. Water from the bowl that is urine-filled, gray water. Any solid waste backup is always considered black water.

We remove the water from the damaged area using our industrial-grade extractors while preserving any nearby furniture and personal items. We use both truck-mounted and portable extractors to handle large-scale water loss situations. SERVPRO technicians do multiple passes to extract as much water as possible to lessen the drying time.

The technicians set up heavy duty dehumidifiers to pull away the moisture from surfaces resulting in progressively drier air circulated in the room.  Technicians set drying goals and monitor the progress to ensure indoor humidity levels are below 50%, so mold infestations are not an issue. After drying, they check the premises to ensure no residual moisture remains and move on to the final step.

We clean and deodorize any damaged items using our specialized cleaning solutions. In some cases, stubborn musty water odors require elimination using different applications such as thermal foggers or deodorizing beads. We also repair the damage by restoring the affected areas. Typically, we manage the complete restoration ourselves as evidenced by General Contractor License #: 937457.

SERVPRO of Stockton is here to assist you with your water damage clean-up. We are available to help you 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.  Call us at (209) 477-3090.

Fast Water Cleanup Can Save Your Lincoln Village Home

Mold on the walls and baseboard trim in basement from water leaking Within 48 hours, mold can establish and begin growing.

Water Cleanup Lincoln Village – Don't Delay, Avoid Mold Growth

When you notice a musty smell, it is probably too late. The growth of mold has already started. As long as damp or wet conditions remain, the mold is going to get worse. If you have a leak from a broken pipe, a leaky window, or even an overflowing sink, act quickly to reduce the opportunity for mold to establish a colony.

SERVPRO has seen many delayed water cleanup situations in Lincoln Village and surrounding areas. The owner had what was deemed to be a small water leak, wiped up the excess water and did not give it another thought. The owners did not realize that the moisture had spread to the walls and the floor underneath. Conditions were perfect for mold to grow. Moist, dark and warm.

Without proper drying, it was not long before mold spores had settled in and began spreading. Within 48 hours, mold can establish and begin growing.

Can You Eliminate Mold
Unfortunately, there is mold everywhere. Mold spores are wafting in the air around us. As soon as mold spores find a dark, moist, warm location the spores can multiply. SERVPRO can investigate your water leak, clean up the excess water, and dry the structure as well as the walls and flooring. Maintaining a humidity level at 45% or lower can usually limit mold growth. By acting quickly, removing water and drying the affected area, the cost to restore your home or office can be much less.

Removing Existing Mold
Difficult situations may require the removal of carpets, flooring, walls, and even structural elements. They are damaged due to long term exposure to damp conditions. SERVPRO can provide advice regarding the removal and restoration of these areas.

We protect other areas of the building by using negative pressure techniques. All materials are removed and disposed of before final drying and reconstruction. We are licensed to provide restoration services for full structural damage repair and rebuild.

Water Damage Technicians From Stockton Describe How Moisture Effects Furniture

A plumbing failure is one of the most common types of disasters that take place in Stockton residences. Any time a crack develops inside a water pipe, there is a chance that it can cause water damage to occur inside your home. Even small cracks can cause hundreds of gallons of water to pour into your dwelling and soak into many of your building materials and contents. Once items inside your home get saturated, it is a wise idea to call in a professional water damage restoration company such as SERVPRO.

As soon as we arrive at your residence, we begin inspecting your house to figure out what materials got affected by moisture and how wet they are. During any water damage project in Stockton, our SERVPRO technicians know that removing moisture from your home promptly is vital. If items inside a building stay wet for a long time, objects inside rooms away from the source can get affected. Many times your building materials and contents can be saved by extraction and drying procedures. In more severe situations, saturated and ruined contents must get removed and counted as a loss.

Excessive moisture caused by water damage can create problems with many items inside your home including your furniture. When upholstered furniture such as couches or recliners gets wet, there are several things that could happen that ruin the structural integrity of the object. Since the frames of couches and recliners are usually made of wood, they can get damaged when the wood gets wet.

The wooden frames on couches are susceptible to swelling and cracking if they get wet enough. When frames swell, joints can come apart and become weak. Glues that hold the frame together can also lose their strength, ruining the structural integrity of the couch.

Some fabrics that are dry clean only can develop water spots if it comes into contact with moisture. If the couch has a cover on it, color bleeding can occur and damage the furniture's fabric. If you ever suffer from a plumbing failure, call SERVPRO of Stockton at (209) 477-3090 24 hours a day.

How Can Kitchen Appliances Cause Water Damage in Stockton?

1/16/2019 (Permalink)

Inspect your kitchen appliances regularly for signs of leaks.

Prevent Water Damage in Your Stockton Kitchen

The kitchen is the hub of your Stockton home. It is the multi-purpose of room of your residence, and the utility of it goes far beyond cleaning and cooking. It can be easy to keep it dry and free of leaks because we spend so much time there. Someone is bound to notice something that is out of the ordinary. However, there are still plenty of unexpected and hidden things which need checking regularly.

If you notice water damage in your Stockton home, such as under your sink, you need to let our staff at SERVPRO know right away so we can help you fix the issue and dry your kitchen out. The quicker the problem is taken care of, the more damage you avoid. We can also check for mold damage since all it needs is a moist, dark area to grow and as little as 24 to 48 hours.

To prevent such a thing, keep an eye out for any deteriorated or missing caulk around your sink. If there are issues, take off the old caulk, clean the area, then re-seal it with fresh silicone. Otherwise, you risk the chance of water leaking under the sink’s lip, which can potentially damage your cabinet and counter, or more. If this happens, make sure to ask our SERVPRO technicians for help. Drying the cabinet out as quickly as possible to prevent more damage is essential. With our industrial fans and dehumidifiers, we can have this done for you in no time.

Regularly checking the valves and supply lines to the pullout spray hose and the faucet is essential as well. Cracks, blisters, wear or bubbling, are an indication you should replace the hose. Getting a braided stainless-steel flex line gives you more stability in the future.

A water dispenser/ice maker in your fridge is convenient, but it does increase the risk of water damage in your kitchen. When a supply line fails, it can dump much water into your kitchen. Check the lines regularly for any signs of wear or damage, and replace any damaged ones with the stainless-steel type.

Another area where supply lines need to be checked on is your dishwasher. Plus, check the door and the deal to ensure it is latching correctly and that water is not escaping. Make sure you someone is home each time you use the dishwasher as well, in case a problem does arise you can stop it before it gets any worse.

Making a habit of checking appliances in your kitchen in your home in Ortega, Lincoln Village, or Stockton is good to prevent water disaster, but SERVPRO of Stockton is always standing by to help if you need us. Just give us a call anytime at (209) 477-3090, and we can have the issue cleaned up quickly.

What to Avoid When Facing Water Damage Hurdles in Your Stockton Home

When your dishwasher fails and dumps soapy water on your flooring, call SERVPRO for effective water removal and remediation services.

Being Informed Helps in Tackling Cases of Water Damage in Stockton

When there is a water spill, many challenges arise because water affects a wide range of materials commonly found in Stockton homes. Most of the immediate damages depend on the source while the long-term ones depend on the exposure period. If the spill is caused by a faulty appliance such as a dishwasher, the detergent and food remains can soil or even stain fabrics and upholstery items nearby. A burst plumbing line might not introduce any contaminants to the affected areas, but it can dump considerable volumes of water within a short time, soaking many items. We offer professional restoration services that can help you deal with the incident “Like it never even happened.”

Various materials react differently to water exposure so your remedial efforts after water damage in Stockton should factor in the type of materials in the affected areas. The most likely problem to occur is microbial growth, and this can affect any organic material, whether it is fabric, a solid like wood, or composite materials. Our SERVPRO technicians deal with this by limiting the exposure period for these materials. We can extract the water pooling around these materials or move the items to dry areas.

Water causes different kinds of damages on carpets. The most common one is delaminating in which the primary and secondary backing separate. Another common problem is bubbling which mostly affects glue-down carpets, while the pad easily breaks apart when wet. Stains are also common and can form from resins on furniture stands and non-colorfast fabrics such as draperies that rest on soaked carpets. Our SERVPRO technicians tackle these problems in different ways. When we find stains, we usually remove them while the carpet is still wet because it is easier.

Sometimes it is possible to cause secondary damage when trying to fix a water spill. This outcome mostly happens in the drying stage when the evaporation rate exceeds the speed of dehumidification which leads to transfer of moisture to unaffected areas. By creating a balanced drying system, our SERVPRO technicians avoid such problems.

Managing water spills requires a combination of different skills. Calling SERVPRO of Stockton ensures that you benefit not just from the skills our technicians have, but their experience too. Call us at (209) 477-3090 any time.

Why it is Important to Establish Moisture Equilibrium in Your Stockton Home

11/14/2018 (Permalink)

SERVPRO uses several pieces of equipment to get the moisture content in your home 'just right.'

SERVPRO Uses Thermodynamics To Work When Drying Your Stockton Area Home

The second law of thermodynamics becomes a significant factor when removing water from your Stockton home. Thinking about this law gives us the understanding that wet goes to dry, hot goes to cold, and high pressure goes to low. When considering these actions regarding drying a building, the air itself holds less moisture than the wet materials or other contents found in your home.

When Stockton area water removal experts enter your property, we always think about this concept regarding thirst. It is our sole job to find ways of removing moisture naturally, and we use a variety of equipment to attain our goals. We realize that the drier the air is, the higher the rate at which a process known as evaporation can occur.

Hygrometers help SERVPRO technicians measure moisture content in various materials found throughout your home. Moisture content is the percentage of moisture found in materials as compared to the weight of a specific material when completely dry. In other words, a moisture rating on a hygrometer explains to the technician how much moisture exists. For example; if a piece of wood has a 10% moisture content reading, it means that 10 lbs of water are in 100 lbs of wood.

SERVPRO uses various moisture detectors and hygrometers to determine water content readings within various materials via a wood moisture equivalency scale. This scale gives us the ability to view a relative scale for measuring moisture found in non-wood materials. Since nature itself seeks equilibrium, stabilizing the relationship between relative humidity and temperature of the surrounding air helps move moisture from wet materials to dry air, effectively drying your home.

SERVPRO technicians help by resetting the equilibrium moisture content (EMC) of an affected area, returning materials to their natural state. With this knowledge, our technicians have a better chance of restoring the furniture, flooring, and other contents found in your home after an emergency water situation occurs.

Contact SERVPRO of Stockton for additional information or to schedule your home’s initial inspection, today. Our IICRC industry certified technicians are available 24/7, 365, to provide you with water removal and restoration services to make any incident, “Like it never even happened.” (209) 477-3090.

Loosened Tub Seals Can Lead to Water Damage in Your Stockton Home

6/16/2018 (Permalink)

Stockton Property Owners Rely on SERVPRO for Water Removal and Cleanup and Restoration

SERVPRO Removes Water and Moisture from Bathrooms Professionally

Daily showers taken by your family in your Stockton residence splashes water up against the sides of the shower stall. While this generally is an expected part of showering and taking baths, water that makes its way behind the tub seal often gets trapped there and eventually travels downward into the area behind the tub.

Problems in your Stockton residence with water damage in the bathroom often come from such water. Drains that leak on their exterior surfaces, between the pipe and the bottom of the tub, can also cause similar problems. When your tub stall's walls have a tiled design, a loss of grout or caulking can also permit water to leak between the tub and the wall.

Although this water might seem unimportant, it can quickly make problems for your home after it gets trapped. Unable to go anywhere else, or to evaporate at a very slow rate, it can rot your walls and the floor underneath the tub. If you notice a weakened floor in your bathroom, imagine the amount of weight a full tub forces on the much weaker floor beneath it, especially when someone takes a bath.

SERVPRO's professionals do more than solely getting the excess water and any damaged materials out when water damage affects a home. We also make sure that we stop any more water from entering where it should not by making small but crucial repairs when possible. Often, we find that this only requires a tightening up of connectors or a new application of plumber's tape. For structural or systemic problems, a general contractor should be called in for the repairs. For more substantial repairs involving broken pipes or drains, we rely on trustworthy and licensed partners to assist our customers with streamlined water damage mitigation. If you call us as soon as you notice a problem, more extensive restorative work may be eliminated.

We bag up and remove any damaged materials in the area. Leaving the area clean helps restoration work begin immediately after. However, we also need to ensure that the area is no longer damp. Moisture left behind can create the perfect environment for mold and mildew once the tub surround goes back to its original location. When we encounter secondary water damage such as microbial infestations, which does happen often, SERVPRO technicians can also perform the remediation that makes things right again, entirely “Like it never even happened.” Our qualified techs can apply an antimicrobial agent to inhibit fungal growth.

SERVPRO of Stockton can help get your house back into its preloss condition again. Contact us at (209) 477-3090 to reach our emergency services number, any hour of any day.

Results of Extreme Water Damage

5/25/2018 (Permalink)

The severity of a water-damaged location is classified by the source of the water and also by the materials that are affected. Another factor is the size/amount of what was affected. When the source of wetness is clean water, the damage is often less severe than when flooding that is caused by a sewage spill or a groundwater flow. When ceilings and upper walls are wet, it’s far more serious than when only a portion of flooring is wet. Don’t worry, there are times proven methods and scientific formulas to properly mitigate and restore each classification and category of water damage. (Mitigation means to stop and contain the damage, and restore means to rebuild or bring back to prior condition.)

What happens when the damage is really intense, will you need to move out? That is a common question. When facility’s systems such as plumbing, heating, and lighting are compromised, moving out during restoration is often the practical solution. When unsafe and unhealthy conditions are present, occupants should vacate. If habitation seriously impedes the cleanup and restoration efforts (especial when young children or seniors are present, it makes sense to move out. Any time the appropriate situation requires move-out we will respectfully notify your insurance adjuster or your property manager as needed. However, the final decision about moving out will be made between you and your insurance adjuster or property manager/landlord. When a disaster strikes, it is a stressful experience. No one enjoys having their home or workplace damaged or their daily life and routines interrupted. It is normal to feel a sense of helplessness. Interacting with an insurance company and having contractors in and out of your home is not familiar territory. From the start to the completion of a restoration project questions arise. SERVPRO of Stockton will be pleased to provide answers and information. We are here to serve the residents and business professionals of Stockton.

How Standing Water Removal in Stockton Can Get Complicated

4/30/2018 (Permalink)

Finding water damage in your home can be overwhelming. Contact SERVPRO to dry out your property and remediate the damage.

SERVPRO Looks Out for Many Possible Complications of Drying Out a Water Damaged Home

Standing water can be one of the most destructive forces possible to have in a home if it is not taken care of quickly. Without timely care and attention, standing water can create mold damage problems, destroy structural elements, and create persistent safety hazards in any affected areas. Standing water removal in Stockton must also be done quickly, lest the damage grow worse with time. SERVPRO can remove most standing water from your home in a matter of hours, but some variables can complicate matters for us.

Hard-to-Reach Places

While we do have the equipment required for standing water removal from Stockton homes' harder places to reach, the presence of water in these places can still make our work more challenging. In some cases, we may need to use portable water extractors when a vehicle-mounted pump would be desirable for the amount of water present. We take care not to cause additional damage to your home when finding solutions to water trapped in odd spots and carefully monitor the environment for additional problems (such as mold damage) that can result from a modified water extraction process.

Electrical Hazards

Some water disasters can create shock hazards as water overtakes power outlets, electronics, and common appliances in the area. SERVPRO technicians wear protective clothing to prevent most accidents from happening, but still, take care to exercise caution whenever these risks exist. We advise you to never enter an area with standing water to avoid risks of electrocution.

Structural Destabilization

In some situations, standing water may cause enough damage to the building to cause moderate or severe structural failures. Our inspectors are trained to look out for these indicators and advise both you and our technicians on risks present in the building. While we can still work in most areas with signs of structural damage, we must take extra safety precautions. Risks can multiply with time, so be sure to contact us early on to avoid as many issues as possible.

Water Damage from a Faulty Appliance in Your Stockton Home? Contact SERVPRO for Water Removal and Restoration

SERVPRO Can Mitigate Damages Caused by Unwanted Water Leaks

Outside sources such as overflowing creeks and rivers near Stockton might come to mind when people think of water damage. However, most homes that suffer from the effects of water do so because of malfunctioning appliances.

Stockton residents help protect their homes from water damage when they know their appliances' setup. Many require water and typically perform as we expect them to function. The amount of water that can invade your home after an appliance's hose slips loose or cracks open can number in the hundreds of gallons. When this happens, you need a professional company that can handle both the extraction of the standing water and the task of drying out your home. At SERVPRO, our employees are dedicated professionals that many earn certificates in Applied Structural Drying (ASD) and WST Water Damage Restoration, meaning they arrive at your home prepared and capable of performing the work necessary.

Our job is not only to remove the offensive water but also to restore your home's interior. We want to leave it just as you remember it, "Like it never even happened." Our Green Fleet includes trucks mounted with large and powerful pumps. These submersible units can quickly extract the water covering your floors. Rapid water extraction helps stop the water from spreading further and preventing additional absorption of moisture by the materials in your home.

Water seeps into anything porous almost immediately, requiring the use of heat, increased air currents, and machines to dehumidify your residence's interior environment. The air absorbs substantial amounts of water, which can then find its way to other areas of your home that otherwise would remain unaffected by the incident.

We work hard to get your floors dry again and prevent any undesired effects such as warping or cupping, which can become permanent requiring expensive replacement. Our SERVPRO techs can place special floor mats that not only increase the heat to the area, but they also extract the water within carpet layers or tongue and groove flooring joints to salvage these costly materials. While carpet restoration experts can rarely clean and restore carpeting adequately after it suffers through a flood from the outdoors, the chances significantly increase when water comes only from an internal source.

Water Removal And Dehumidification Under Floors In Your Stockton Home

3/13/2018 (Permalink)

Water or flood damage can compromise the structure and integrity of your home if the cleanup process is not handled by experts in restoration.

Water Removal And Dehumidification

Following flood damage in Stockton homes, the priority is to restore the affected property to its original condition as quickly as possible. Water or flood damage can compromise the structure and integrity of your home if the cleanup process is not handled by experts in restoration. The process should focus on minimizing secondary damage efficiently and effectively, as well as limiting disruption for the homeowner.

If your property is affected by a flood, either from a natural disaster or a plumbing problem, you can count on SERVPRO for emergency restoration services. We are available 24/7 to offer advice on cleaning up after a flood. Our staff and technicians use IICRC-certified methods to reverse water damage in the house and dry the structure in emergency situations.

It is important to contain the damage closing off the affected area as soon as possible. This is designed to prevent outside air and other elements that may add humidity to the space. It is equally important to eliminate the moisture as fast as possible. In most cases, this can be achieved by adding heat to the room.

SERVPRO water removal experts use a combination of various techniques to keep the water from penetrating deep into floors, walls, furniture and other parts of the building. In the event of underfloor water damage, it is usually necessary to replace the wet insulation under the flooring. This work is time-consuming and may keep the room virtually useless until the repair work completes.

However, in many instances, SERVPRO staff can use an advanced dehumidifier to boost heat to the process. This also helps to reduce the need for tearing up the flooring and saves a lot of money. The process involves feeding hot dry air underneath the floor using ducts from the dehumidifiers.

Water damage to your flooring can be costly and an inconvenience. If there is a flood in the house, SERVPRO of Stockton can provide quick and efficient water removal services. We are available 24/7, every day of the week. Call us anytime at (209) 477-3090.

Environmental Controls Explained

10/10/2017 (Permalink)

INFORMATION CONCERNING ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROLS:

The EPA states, “Clean or dry wet spots within 48 hours.” Experts have learned that the key to mold control is moisture control.” Equipment and techniques have been developed to dry wet indoor environments in a healthy manner.   When our SERVPRO of Stockton mitigation experts arrive at a water-damaged location, we employ indoor environmental controls to achieve a safe indoor environment, particularly to achieve good air quality. The following types of equipment, engineering controls and treatments are employed to accomplish this:

HEPA air scrubbers remove 99.9% of fine particulates such as dust, pollen, dander, mold spore and others from the air. We are especially concerned about the potential for mold issues. Our goal is to make the air cleaner than it was before we arrived.

HEPA negative air machines also filter the air. The exhaust air from these machines is vented out of the work zone thus creating negative air pressure within a containment work zone (chamber). This minimizes the risk of the work zone contaminating adjacent areas.

Containment chambers are barriers constructed using plastic sheeting, zippered entries and other devices. These work chambers isolate the damage by preventing potential cross-contamination. Containment chambers also accelerate drying time, reduce noise pollution and promote safety by keeping people away from the work zone. Our goal is to always protect your health and safety.

Thermal fogging, Ozone treatment and other anti-microbial remedies: are judiciously applied to control odor, prevent bacteria and other microbial growth activity. Material Safety and Data Sheets are available upon request for these and all products used by our company.

SERVPRO of Stockton stands by, ready and able to help you with any water damage event. We are also trained, certified and highly experienced to provide remediation for any indoor environmental event that may have happened.

What is a desiccant dehumidifier?

5/21/2017 (Permalink)

Desiccant setup.

Desiccant-Based Dehumidification is an interesting topic. Most people are aware of “cold-coil” dehumidification, which removes moisture from the air by condensing the moisture on a cold surface.

Desiccant dehumidification relies on adsorption or absorption power of desiccants which are substances that attract water-vapor molecules from the air. They rely on adsorptive or absorptive process.

Adsorption refers to a desiccant that does not change phase as it collects airborne moisture. Most adsorbents are solids; familiar examples include activated alumina, silica gel, and zeolites (molecular sieves). In water damage drying application, desiccant machines are made to collecting moisture on a rotating wheel coated with solid desiccant material. As damp air passes through one section of the wheel the desiccant on that section adsorbs water vapor, making the air drier than when it entered. Wheel rotation then exposes the moisture-laden desiccant to a “regenerating” air stream that strips the captured moisture away from the desiccant (desorption). The wheel rotates to the damp air collection port and it is ready to adsorb more moisture.

At SERVPRO we have both cold “coil dehumidifiers” and “desiccant dehumidifiers”. Having one or more desiccants are the benchmark of a professional mitigation company.

We have what it takes to get a commercial property back up and running.

Has Your Property Experienced Water Damage?

Got Water Damage?

There are many ways that a building can become damaged by water: Ground water flooding, rain storms, burst water delivery pipes, plumbing backups, failed/leaking water heaters, etc.

Over the years SERVPRO of Stockton has responded to many unusual sources of water damage including: Punctured water beds; children watering indoor plants with a garden house; aquariums falling over during an earthquake; carpenters driving nails through hidden pipes, and the list goes on.

Perhaps the strangest water damage events that we responded to was one that happened at a three-story condominium building. Children were riding bicycles in a parking lot next to their swimming pool and one cyclist rode into a strip of landscaping. The front tire of the bike knocked the head off of an irrigation sprinkler. A jet of water shot into the sky, higher than the building rooftop, and then arched and descended into an open condo window on the third floor.

Residents and guests at the pool gathered around the sprinkler head in awe. Who knew there was that much water pressure in an irrigation system? In short order, a resident made an emergency phone call to the property management company and in turn our emergency response water mitigation company was summoned to the location.

When our crew arrived, we were amazed to see a stream of water in the air shooting into an open window…. the one and only open window on that side of the building. Someone asked if we were from the landscaping company who could turn off the irrigation system? “No, but we can certainly stop this problem,” said I as my partner found a steppingstone in the garden and placed it atop of the broken sprinkler pipe. Sure the water was splashing around the garden, but it was no longer shooting into the condo unit on the third floor. The spectators felt rather stupid. The water had been running for 45 minutes causing about 900 gallons of water to enter the building. Later, I learned that someone wanted to call the fire department so they could bring a ladder to close the window. Other residents had said no, the fire department would charge for the service call. People can make you scratch your head in disbelief.

A few minutes later, the landscaper arrived to turn off the water and replace the sprinkler head. A locksmith arrived too, so we could be let into the affected condo units. The water had also wetted a unit on the second and first floor directly below the third floor “source” unit. Much less damage would have occurred if the spectators had been more resourceful. Sometimes people become shocked or overwhelmed by the circumstances. That’s one reason we’re here when you need us. We’re SERVPRO of Stockton 209-477-3090.
